I firmly believe that motivation is the first and paramount factor in creating a favorable learning environment. The teaching-learning process does not begin unless I have addressed this issue upfront, so that students can enjoy the learning experience, instead of enduring it.
My effort in extrinsic motivation is to trigger the intrinsic motivation. To me, building trust in the student-teacher relationship is the key to motivating students. Hence, I devote as much attention to this sphere as to the teaching of content. Once trust is built, it spontaneously opens up communication, increases student-teacher confidence, and leads to the desire to cooperate, collaborate and learn.
PERSPECTIVE ON STUDENT MOTIVATION
How I inspire student learning? I use my teaching strategy as well as tools. For example, I make it a point to adopt a collaborative-student-centered approach by using a range of innovative methods like:
- e-Knowledge Repository for Teaching-Learning,
- X-Word Puzzle Game,
- Lecture outlines with key words missing,
- Mind Mapping exercise,
- One-Minute Paper,
- Learning by Questioning,
- Learning from Mistakes
- How to Answer Questions Skillfully
- Learning 4 Understanding
- creating chapter summary using Wiki
- Competition/Awards for Projects
- Differential diagnosis for Project Supervision
- QR Code in Lectures
- Connecting-the-dot Project
- Personal Response System or Socrative Apps.
